Winning the Student Internship Lottery: How to RIG IT to WIN IT (every time!) with nuResume

“Congratulations! You’ve won the lottery!”Oh boy that would be sweet. I never get tired of saying that … hearing it would be even nicer. We would all love to hear those improbable words after entering such an impossible game of chance as the lottery. A couple of bucks, more or less, is no sweat if it gives us the chance to win big-time dollars in the 7 or 8 digit amount.

The lottery is one thing. But can we chance such an important “game” as our professional future?

Umm, no.

Why play a game of chance if you know you can win? By following a few simple tips and using a couple useful free online tools already at your disposal, finding a hot job or summer internship won’t be chanced – it’ll be reality-ed!

Five Tips for Landing Summer Internships (rig it to win it … every time!)

1.     Google yourself! Know where you stand online. Ignorance is neither bliss nor an excuse: you need to know how recruiters will see you when they search for you online.

2.     Stand out! Create a nuResume profile, and spice it up – it’s your own unique personality online. Think of it like this: how many of us spend at least 15 minutes in front of the mirror each morning getting ready to look sharp for the day? How many of us do the same for our online profiles? And yet many more people will see that virtual identity and make judgments on us based on that. Gotta spruce that up too!

3.     Post it! What are you looking for? Say it. Say it loud. Say it clear. Say it where you can. Otherwise, employers and recruiters and your friends with job leads may never know you are the perfect fit!

4.     Share it! Go to your nuResume page. See that URL at the top of the screen? Yeah, that’s yours. Personalize it with your name and use that link in your emails, on Facebook, and on LinkedIn (see me: http://www.nuresume.com/profiles/kevinadler/). Share your resume strategically, and get found repeatedly (rhyme time).

5.   Be proactive! Reach out to employers through nuResume and LinkedIn. Sign up for job alerts through Indeed, Jobster, and nuResume. Join employer networks. Go the distance.

Remember the above Five Tips and you’ll be a sure lotto winner every time (in terms of internships, jobs, summer jobs, and summer internships – actual lottery winning not guaranteed).
