Oakland News Alert: Mayor Dellums and others Organize Concert for Haiti Relief Efforts

Mayor of Oakland posted this important event and news alert on Haiti

OAKLAND - Mayor Ron Dellums, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09), D’Wayne Wiggins of the R&B music group Tony Toni Tone and other community organizations, elected officials and musicians will help organize a concert and series of fundraising events to raise $100K in one week towards Haiti’s earthquake relief efforts.

When the human family witnesses a loss of life on such a large scale, the responsibility to support recovery efforts is vitally important. This concert is one way Bay Area residents can help provide critical supplies and resources to the people of Haiti,” said Mayor Dellums.

Both here in the Bay Area and across the nation, citizens are galvanizing support in response to this disaster,” said Congresswoman Lee. “I am moved and proud to see that Oakland is joining in this massive intemational effort to provide relief and support for the people of Haiti.”

Pleasanton FAZ Restaurant shares one more - Marco Polo Pasta

Pleasanton Restaurant Faz posted a great recipe alert!

Silk Road Pasta - Serves 2

- 8 Jumbo Prawns (10-12 to a lb), cleaned & deveined / peeled
- 1 Clove of Garlic – minced
- 1 Shallot – minced
- 1/3 cup Dry White Wine
- 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
- 1 tbsp. Butter
- 2 Roma Tomatoes or Heirloom – 1 cup chopped approx.
- 1 cup Spinach Leaves
- 1 tsp. Curry (or more per taste)
- 1 cup Manufacturing Cream
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- 10 oz. cooked Fettuccine al Dente - drained – (keep hot boiling water on stove for later)

Place oil in hot fry pan – add chopped garlic & shallots. Add prawns – sauté till light pink and garlic and shallots are soft. Add wine and deglaze pan. Reduce and add butter. Let butter melt and add cream and curry powder – reduce. Add tomatoes and spinach leaves – toss. Add salt & pepper – taste for seasonings. Adjust.

Drop pasta in basket of hot water to warm, drain excess water and then place into cream mixture. Coat pasta till covered and silky. Divide with tongs into two pasta bowls – or into one platter to share. Top with prawns. Can sprinkle fresh grated parmesan cheese & fresh parsley flake or basil.

Dear One Salad - Serves 6

Roasted Beet and Cara Cara Orange Salad with Goat Cheese on Organic Baby Mixed Greens with Toasted Almonds & Pomegranate Vinaigrette

Pomegranate Vinaigrette:

- 1 cup Orange Juice
- ½ cup Pom Pomegranate Juice
- ½ Shallot - Minced Fine
- Sea Salt
- Fresh Ground Pepper
- 2 tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Pinch of Crush Chilies (if desired)
- Pinch of Sugar

Mix all ingredients together.  Toss needed vinaigrette with lettuce.

Salad

- 2 lbs Medium Sized Beets (Gold - Red or Both) - Washed
- ¼ cup Olive Oil & 1 tbsp. of Water
- 8 Cara Cara or Blood Oranges - Peeled & Sliced
- 1.5 lbs. of Mixed Organic Baby Greens - Washed & Dried
- 1 cup Almonds - Toasted
- 6 oz. Goat Cheese (good quality such as Laura Chenel)
- 1 ate Vinaigrette

Cover with foil and bake until beets are fork tender - about 60 - 80 minutes depending on size. When tender remove from oven and let cool. Peel beets and cut into wedges or cubes.

Presentation

Place dressed baby greens on plates and top with sliced oranges & beets. Divide Goat cheese on top and sprinkle with Toasted Almonds.
